What is TPTA's mission?
The Tennessee Public Transportation Association is committed to:
- Increasing the use of public transportation
- Securing adequate funding for public transportation
- Encouraging the use of best practices in public transit among members, and
- Disseminating public transportation research and information to the public, to members and to elected officials
Who should join TPTA?
Organizations, associations, companies, businesses and individuals who have:
- A vested interest in encouraging and expanding public transportation in Tennessee and/or
- A belief in the value of public transportation in Tennessee.
My organization doesn't really have anything to do with transit. Why should we join?
Public transportation benefits every segment of society, including individuals, families, businesses, industries and communities.

- Reducing congestion and pollution,
- Saving energy,
- Improving air quality, and
- Providing mobility to older adults, people who are disabled, teens and those without their own transportation.
What are some of the current transit initiatives TPTA is working on?
TPTA currently is working to:
- Secure more funding for public transportation in Tennessee,
- Inform individuals, businesses, community leaders and elected officials about the benefits of public transportation and the need for public transportation in Tennessee, and
- Assist public transit agencies across Tennessee with information and resources.
How can I get involved with TPTA?
First, join TPTA. Then, contact TPTA officers and staff and tell them of your specific interest. Inquire about how you can get more involved. Finally, monitor this website, contact your elected officials with your views about transportation and attend TPTA's meetings and events. Welcome!
